It was probably my favourite comic when I was a child:the ugly and terrible spanish edition of JLA #109. On the first page, the gathering of heroes waits for the Winged Wonder to arrive. When Hawkman appears it has a surprising news for his friends: he's quitting the JLA.
He and his wife Shayera are required to retun to their homeworld Thanagar -remember this is my favourite incarnation of the character: the alien Katar Hol identity-, where their police duties wait for them. The team is in shock because of the perspective of losing their good friends and even better team mates. Even Green Arrow is worried thinking if it has been his fault due to his constant opposition with Katar. One nice moment showing that this two guys share a true deep connection outside their common fights.
At this moment, the real adventure of this issue begins, when the Red Tornado appears seriously wounded, helped by a scientist that reveals the leaguers the villain they're about to fight with: Eclipso, that has become a menace for all the living, as he use to. The team is divided in groups -as they used to, too- to face the challenge, and Green Arrow insists to join forces with Hawkman -and Elongated Man- for this last battle together.
In a nice sequence beautifully created by Dick Dillin, we find Ollie, Katar and Ralph fighting side by side and showing that, before any other considerations, the JLA is a team binded by friendship.
In the issue's final page, we find Hawkman's farewell from his team mates, and some nice shocking panels of Green Arrow, showing that he will miss Katar more than he is ready to admit. They were two opposite guys but they surely share a deep sense of respect and a weird friendship that only in that moment we truly realize.
After living again all these feelings while writing this post, I've decided that I need to find an american copy from that book, in the same way I did with issue #104 -I talked about that in an older post- to have a chance of "reading it again for the first time", with the original colors and the original dialogues. Maybe with even some lost extra page, like I discovered with issue #104.
It's something I think I owe to myself.
Seguramente era mi comic favorito de niño: la feísima y terrible edición en castellano del JLA #109. En la primera página, la reunión de héroes se encuentra esperando la llegada de la Maravilla Alada. Cuando Hawkman aparece, trae noticias sorprendentes para sus amigos: deja la JLA.Él y su esposa Shayera son requeridos para que regresen a su mundo natal, a Thanagar -recuerdo que esta es mi encarnación favorita de personaje: la identidad del alienígena Katar Hol-, donde sus deberes como agentes de la ley les esperan. El equipo se queda impactado ante la perspectiva de perder a sus buenos amigos y aún mejores compañeros de equipo. Incluso Green Arrow se muestra preocupado por si hubiera sido culpa suya la precipitada marcha, debida a su constante opocisición con Katar. Un bonito momento que mostraba que estos dos tipos compartían una profunda conexión más allá de sus habituales broncas.En ese preciso momento, comienza la aventura real de ese episodio, cuando Red Tornado aparece seriamente dañado, ayudado por un científico que revela al grupo el villano contra el que están a punto de luchar: Eclipso, que se ha convertido en una amenaza para toda la vida del planeta, como acostumbra. El equipo se divide en grupos -como acostumbra, también- para hacer frente al desafío, y Green Arrow insiste en unir fuerzas con Hawkman -y el Hombre Elástico- para esta última batalla juntos.En una bella secuencia hermosamente dibujada por Dick Dillin, nos encontramos con Ollie, Katar y Ralph luchando codo con codo y mostrándonos que, antes que cualquier otra consideración, la JLA es un equipo unido por la amistad.En la página final del capítulo, nos encontramos con la despedida de Hawkman de sus compañeros y unas hermosas y chocantes viñetas de Green Arrow que nos demuestran que encontrará a faltar a Katar más de lo que está dispuesto a admitir. Ellos dos eran dos tipos opuestos pero tambien es cierto que compartían un profundo respeto y una extraña amistad que sólo en este momento comprendemos realmente.Después de revivir todas estas sensaciones mientras escribía este post, he decidido que tengo que encontrar una copia americana de este cómic, del mismo modo que lo hice con el número #104 -del que ya hablé en un post más antiguo- para así tener la oportunidad de "leerlo de nuevo por primera vez", con su color y sus diálogos originales. Quién sabe, tal vez incluso tenga alguna página extra que suprimieran en la edición española, como me sucedió con el #104.
Es algo que creo que me debo a mí mismo.
